Instruct or coach groups or individuals in exercise activities. Demonstrate techniques and form, observe participants, and explain to them corrective measures necessary to improve their skills.


  1. Observe participants and inform them of corrective measures necessary for skill
  2. Instruct participants in maintaining exertion levels to maximize benefits from exercise
  3. Offer alternatives during classes to accommodate different levels of
  4. Plan routines, choose appropriate music, and choose different movements for each set of muscles, depending on participants' capabilities and
  5. Teach proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion.
  6. Evaluate individuals' abilities, needs, and physical conditions, and develop suitable training programs to meet any special requirements.
  7. Monitor participants' progress and adapt programs as
  8. Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations governing sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise
  9. Provide students with information and resources regarding nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle
  10. Advise clients about proper clothing and
  11. Maintain fitness
  12. Teach and demonstrate use of fitness equipment such as machines and weights according to generally accepted fitness industry
  13. Plan physical education programs to promote development of participants' physical attributes and social skills.
  14. Organize, lead, and referee indoor and outdoor fitness
  15. Maintain equipment inventories, and select, store, or issue equipment as
  16. Teach individual and team sports to participants through instruction and demonstration, utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and of participants' physical capabilities.
  17. Promote fitness center through membership sales, and record member information.
  18. Assist with providing educational opportunities using in-house expertise and community
  19. Promote fitness and wellness continuously through newsletter, campus TV station,
  20. Monitor wellness center/fitness room when
  21. Collect all participant information, forms, and documentation necessary for exercise
  22. Conduct and administer periodic health checks and surveys of
  23. Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings and training opportunities in order to keep informed on current information and skill
  24. Follow established policies and procedures including but not limited to:Presbyterian Villages policies and
  25. Safety policies and
  26. Federal, state and local
  27. All other duties as assigned


Education : Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school) in related field


Experience : Previous experience working with mature adults in a health and fitnss capacity is preferred. Previous experience successfully leading individual and group exercise classes, including but not limited to endurance, strength, and flexibility classes.


Computer literacy required


Certified by one of the following credentialing bodies: (ACSM)The American College of Sports Medicine, (ACE) The American Council on Exercise,(SFA)Senior Fitness Association, or

(AFAA)Aerobics and Fitness Association of America required.
